When I was thinking about doppelgangers and doubles, one of the first things that came to my mind was Robin Williams. Robin Williams, before his death, was one of the most well-known and seemingly happiest people alive. He was an extremely gifted actor and played many famous roles that almost everyone knows today. Everyone looked up to Robin Williams and it was near impossible to find anything you wouldn’t like about him. He had, what seemed like, the perfect happy life and could want nothing more.
On August 11, 2014 Robin Williams committed suicide.
Yes, that's right.
Suicide.
This came as a shock to everyone. Why would the happiest person in the world kill themselves? Robin Williams never showed any signs of depression or ever even seemed sad. That being said, why would he kill himself? Nobody knew he was hurting, nobody knew he was dying inside. Why didn't anyone know? Robin Williams put on a face, a mask, everyday. He presented a different Robin Williams to the world, a mirror image, a doppelgänger if you will, while his true self was left at home. Robin Williams was living a double life. He must have felt like he couldn't show his true self to the world because nobody knew the hurting and dying Robin Williams, they knew the happy and lively Robin Williams.
